Assemble Fest is a one-day theatre festival that takes place from 10am until 6pm down Newland Avenue, a multicultural community infused with local charm and international character. Working with business owners on the avenue, specially commissioned shows are performed multiple times to create highly visual, exciting and engaging experiences in a range of surroundings.
The festival strives to offer something for everyone, removing barriers people may otherwise run into when trying to access the arts. This is accompanied by free street activity, such as buskers, live art, face painting and puppet shows that are perfect for families and big kids.
This year the festival will also host a special closing event, Our Street Our Stage. Join us at Clothes Factor’s car park from 7:30pm for a celebration of one of Hull’s most diverse and independent communities.
The street will become the stage as we celebrate Newland’s colourful history, music, residents, traders and culture through a series of promenade music, dance and visual installations. Explore the past of its iconic places, such as The New Adelphi Club and old Monica Cinema, and celebrate the diverse people that have made this avenue great.
A shared experience designed for all generations, Our Street Our Stage is a free event. Please note this will take place outdoors, so dress accordingly. Although it will be an accessible performance, it will require some walking and standing between scenes.
Whether you pop down for five minutes on Saturday 3rd June or join us for a full day, we hope to see you there!
