City Of Culture 2017

It’s 2017 !!! and finally the year Hull is the UK City of Culture.

Hull was announced the winner of UK City of Culture 2017 in 2013. The award is given every four years to a city that shows the belief in the transformational power of culture and our year is finally here.

The award is a wonderful achievement for the people of hull, it allows us to showcase our unique city to the rest of the UK and the world, it will benefit everybody in the city from helping local businesses, bands, performers and telling our story.

Martin Green the City Of Culture Chief said Hull was “one of many cities in the UK that don’t get their time in the spotlight, so people don’t think there are stories to be told and things to be celebrated” But in fact Hull has a huge lengthy history behind it, from World War 2 to the rich heritage of our fishing industry, all of this is waiting to be told and will be explored and broadcasted in fantastic events this year, it is a really huge honour for Hull.

Everybody at the Hello Hull team are super excited about all the events that are planned for this year’s celebration, the whole city has been transformed and ready for everything that is lined up.

So what’s planned for season one of this year’s celebrations? A huge fireworks show to rival London’s New Year’s celebrations for the opening of UK City of Culture Hull 2017, Opera North are Moth turning the Humber Bridge into a musical extravaganza and wonderful event run by the city hall which celebrates our city in pictures on buildings, join the crowds on a spectacular trail where our streets speak and the buildings tell our stories, to find out all of the other incredible events going on in season one, head over to the city of culture website – https://www.hull2017.co.uk/
